Autodesk Maya Animation
Animation- Autodesk Maya – Maya Software
0Maya was earlier available in two versions as Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited. However, now it comes as one single software version by replacing Maya Unlimited. The Maya Complete was discontinued and the latest Maya contains all the features of Maya Unlimited 2009.
Maya Fluid Effects – It is a realistic fluid simulator that is effective in case of smoke, explosions, fire, and clouds.
Maya Classic Cloth – It is a type of Cloth simulation that simulate the clothing automatically and fabrics move realistically over the animated character. The up gradation of the Maya Cloth toolset was done in every version of Maya which was released after Spider-Man 2. Alias and Sony Pictures Imageworks work together to get Maya Cloth upgraded for that production and all those changes were implemented.
Maya Fur – It is an Animal fur simulation that is similar to the Maya Hair. It can be applied in order to do the simulation of other fur-like objects like grass.
Maya Hair – It is a simulator for realistic-looking human hair that is implemented with the help of curves and Paint Effects. They are also called as dynamic curves.
Maya Live – It refers to a set of motion tracking tools from CG matching to the clean plate footage.
Maya nCloth – It is added in version 8.5 where nCloth becomes the first implementation of Maya Nucleus which is an Autodesk’s simulation framework. NCloth provides the artist with greater control of cloth and material simulations.
Maya nParticle- It is added in version 2009 where nParticle is add-on to Maya Nucleus toolset. It offers the artists an instinctive and competent workflow for the simulation of a wide range of complex 3D effects such as liquids, smoke, clouds, spray, and dust.
MatchMover – It is added to Maya 2010 which enables the compositing of CGI elements with the motion data from video as well as film sequences.
Use in films – There are many famous computer-animated films made with Maya software such as Age, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Monsters vs. Aliens, Avatar, and others.
Animation – Autodesk Maya- Scripting and Plug-ins
0Maya consists of attributes that are parametric in nature. It means that anything can be connected to anything in Maya. For example, a colour intensity of a shader can be applied for controlling the opening and closing movements of the door. In order to control the node-based system of Maya, the complete reconfigurable user interface is scripted with MEL script code that can be dropped onto a shelf for creating a new icon for executing that code. The Python scripting language has been included in the release of Maya 8.5 support. However, the current implementation of Python in Maya is not completely object oriented.
MEL Scripting – Maya consists of an embedded script language known as MEL or Maya Embedded Language. It looks similar to TCL and Perl programming. The Code was written in MEL and it can be executed from the shelves, script editor and drop down menus. MEL provides more access and control as compared to things designed in the User Interface. Advanced options and some functions of the software are only available by using MEL programming. All the Maya preferences, toolbars, commands, and drop down menus make use of MEL code. You can retrieve the original MEL procedures and functions by recording from the Script Editor History Window or by scanning the Maya Program Files directory.
MEL is not object oriented in nature, therefore it is not possible for creating custom classes and methods as one can do in C++ or Python. The basic advantage is that it provides MEL a robust structure that makes it accessible and easier to understand for the Maya users and novice programmers. The linear scripting nature of the language also helps the user in making most of the Maya nodes instead of creating his own objects as in case of object oriented languages.
Animation – Autodesk Maya- Modelling, Dynamics and Simulation
0Modelling in Maya consists of NURBS, polygons and subdivision surfaces. The Polygons are a widely used model medium because of its relative stability and functionality. They are also the visualization bridge between NURBS and SubDivs. The NURBS are applied for their ready-smooth look and react well to the twists in the Dynamics Workbench. SubDivs refers to a combination of both NURBS and polygons; however they are just a smoothed mesh. They are easy to manipulate such as polygons that result in modelling of numerous objects like hands, faces, and other multi-topological preparations. Maya hair tools are difficult to apply to the subdivision polygons with no earlier conversion.
Dynamics and simulation – Maya comes with a particle system that handles masses such as steam and water drops. The Dynamic fields’ permits you to add gravity, wind as well as vortexes. It also allows effects like blowing leaves or tornadoes. With special tools, artists can brush and style particles such as hair and fur. This module refers to a direct evolution of Wavefront Dynamation.
An artist may lead to the creation of rigid body geometric objects that automatically collide without external animation and soft body objects that can ripple and bend such as flags and cloth.
Maya effects can be defined as the built-in programs that help the user in creating complex animation effects like smoke, fire as well as realistic water effects that showcase many alternatives and attributes for regulating the results. In version 8.5 of Maya, a powerful cloth simulator tool called as “nCloth" was added that allows the users to simulate cloth with control over the aspects like self-collision and interpenetration. The cloth objects are tailored to act as rigid or soft bodies.
Apart from “ncloth”, in version 2009, the "nParticles" were added which provide a new particle simulation system.
Animation -Autodesk Maya
0The Autodesk Maya is basically a software application that is used for 3D modelling, 3D animation, rendering, simulation, visual effects, match-moving, and compositing. It was developed in Toronto by Autodesk’s Media and Entertainment Division. It is used in the film and TV industry. It is also used for architectural visualization, architectural design, computer and video games. The product got its name after the Sanskrit term for illusion called as “Maya”. Maya is a widely popular and integrated node-based 3D software suite that is developed by using the technologies from Wavefront Explorer and Alias PowerAnimator. Earlier, this software was released in two versions such as Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited; however, it is now sold as single software. The IRIX operating system released the Maya originally and eventually it was ported to the Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems. The latest version of Maya is 2011 (13.0) that was released in April 2010.
One of the important features of Maya is its openness to third-party software. It can strip the software completely from its standard appearance and by using only the kernel it can transform it into a highly personalized version of the software. This feature has made Maya tempting to large studios that tend to write the custom codes for their productions by utilising the offered software development kit.
The Maya Embedded Language (MEL) is offered as a scripting language and it is also used to customize the Maya’s core functionality where most of the environment, commands, as well as tools are written in the language. Moreover, user interactions are implemented as well as recorded as MEL scripting code that can be stored on a custom toolbar by the users. It also allows the animators to add functionality without requiring any experience in C or C++. The core of Maya was developed in the C++ language. Maya contains all the geometry and animation data that can be edited in any text editor outside of the Maya environment. Thus, it offers a high level of flexibility while working with external tools.
